A case of the cantaloupe...how can this FRUIT be so DANGEROUS??

I love cantaloupe - sweet milky and juicy.

Honey dew cannot lawan. Cantaloupe still my favourite.

Especially when you placed it in the fridge the night before, then pepagi tu makan...ooo yummsss

Did you know that Cantaloupe is one of the top sources of beta-carotene besides Sweet Potato and Carrots?
Vitamin A, also called retinol, helps your eyes adjust to light changes when you come in from outside and also helps keep your eyes, skin and mucous membranes moist. Vitamin A mostly comes from animal foods, but some plant-based foods supply beta-carotene, which your body then converts into Vitamin A. It also has antioxidant properties that neutralize free radicals in the body that cause tissue and cellular damage - http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/nutrition/vitamin-a.asp
Boost up your Vitamin A intake to fight against viral infections they say.

But then....in the news - Tainted cantaloupes are linked to 13 deaths; 72 illnesses have been reported in 18 states.

cantaloupe warnings continue

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Listeria can take three weeks or longer to make a person sick
  • Tainted cantaloupes are linked to 13 deaths; 72 illnesses have been reported in 18 states
  • It is the deadliest U.S. outbreak of a food-borne illness in more than a decade
(CNN) -- Federal health officials are expanding efforts to ensure no additional bacteria-tainted cantaloupes get to consumers in what has become the deadliest U.S. outbreak of a food-borne illness in more than a decade.
The Food and Drug Administration said it has teamed up with state officials in the effort.
"FDA and its state partners are conducting checks at retail stores, wholesalers and distributors to make sure they have received notification about the Jensen Farms' whole cantaloupe recall and that they have taken appropriate action to notify their customers and remove the recalled whole cantaloupes from the shelves," the agency said in a statement Wednesday.
Thirteen people have died in what has become the deadliest U.S. outbreak of a food-borne illness since 1998, according to records from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The outbreak -- blamed on the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes -- was first reported September 12. It was traced to consumption of Rocky Ford cantaloupes grown at Jensen Farms' fields in Granada, Colorado. As of Monday, it had grown to 18 states, 72 illnesses and 13 deaths, according to the CDC's latest statistics.
"Because some of the wholesalers and distributors may have further distributed the recalled cantaloupes to food processors, it is possible that additional products that contain cantaloupe from Jensen Farms could be recalled," the FDA said. "There is no indication of foreign distribution at this time."
New E. coli contamination scare
In 1998, 21 people died from consuming tainted hot dogs, according to a CDC database.
In the current outbreak, four people who ate contaminated cantaloupes died in New Mexico, two each in Colorado and Texas, and one each in Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
Public health officials also have reported illnesses in California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Listeria can grow even at low temperatures and can also can take three weeks or longer to make a person sick, so more cases may emerge in the coming weeks, officials said.
Listeriosis causes fever, muscle aches, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms. It is rarely a serious concern for healthy children and adults, according to the CDC, but it is particularly dangerous for older adults, people with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, it can cause miscarriages, stillbirth and premature delivery.
Pregnant women may experience only mild flu-like symptoms, said Dr. David Acheson, a former chief medical officer for the FDA who is now the managing director for food and import safety practice at Leavitt Partners, a firm which advises clients on health care and food safety. Listeria can be devastating to a fetus, he said, particularly in the second or third trimesters, so pregnant women who may have been exposed and have any flu-like symptoms should see a doctor. Symptoms can be more pronounced in the elderly or those with compromised immune systems, he said.
About 1,600 people become seriously ill because of the bacteria each year, the CDC reports, and about 260 die.

p/s nasib baik I ate TEMPATAN only cantaloupe *fuh!* but whatever it is always wash your hands, wash the fruit you are going to eat :)

Semalam Allah SWT menduga saya. Sehabis puas saya menangis.

Dia menulis :

Saya Rohaiza Bte Ishak.

Apabila doctor scan (MRI) otak anak saya, doctor menyatakan bahawa anak saya terencat akal kerana sel-sel otak telah mati kerana kekurangan oksigen.

Kadang-kadang saya kuat, kadang-kadang saya lemah sangat.

Rakan menasihati saya agar perbanyakkan solat hajat, baca yassin dan bersedekah. Alhamdulillah.

Sekali lagi anak saya diduga iaitu selepas 3 hari kaki anak bengkak. Apabila doctor buat x-ray, rupanya kaki anak saya patah kerana dicucuk ketika memasukkan line.Pergerakan anak saya tidak seaktif bayi kerana kesan kurangnya oksigen di otak ..tambahan pula kaki kanan anak bersimen.

Hanya Allah tempat saya mengadu.

Andainya terlalu berat permintaan saya, bacakanlah Al-Fatihah.

Solat Hajat

1) Niat Ushalli sunnatal hajati rak’ataini lillaahi ta’aala.

Insyaallah Allah makbulkan.

Ayat Kursi

Allahu laa ilaaha illaa huwal hayyl qayuum, la tak khu-dzuhuu sinataunw walaa naw-um, lahuu maa fis samawaati wamaa fil-ardhi, man dzal-la-dzii yasy-fa-‘u indahuu illaa bi-idz-nihii, ya’-lamu maa bayna aydiihim, wamaa khal-fahum walaa yuhii-thuuna bi-syai-inm min’ilmihii illa bimaa syaa-a, wasi-‘a kursiy-yuhus samaawaati wal-ar-dha, walaa ya-uu-duhuu hifzhuhumaa wahuwal ‘aliy-yul azhim

Speechless...bak kata Suzana Ghazali, Perunding Psikologi Keluarga dan Guaman Syarie :
Ayuni, puteri sulung saya pernah tanyakan, kenapa saya suka tonton siri Bersamamu TV3 malah saya ajak anak-anak menonton bersama.

NEW FACEBOOK PROFILE - Welcome to Your Timeline

I love G+ coz I hang out with the cool web developers and IT peps there :P

So at the moment I am not sure if this will hit everyone by end of this Month but it says what it says there so better be prepared then get the culture shock of what happend when they made changes to the new FB English UK setting yesterday

So what is this Timeline Profile..lets take a tour

and even to when I was born???? LOL

So here is what I CAN SEE on my new Facebook Timeline Profile. This is not out yet to everyone, only to developers of apps - so I hope a small window of glimpse might help to lessen the culture shock

What I dont like is...too much information that I have to hide some MANUALLY - LECEH
But I think its cool - I might change the cover...but its certainly is ME

p/s this is my DEVELOPER's Profile no Husband allowed :P

Your child will live a life ten years younger...

say that I deprive my children of the luxury of food. They have never tasted a red velvet cake (I doubt they will like it or not), McDonalds is a 1x a month (sometimes none), there are no cordials, Ribena or Milo (well, not on a regular basis) and I start my day by boiling FILTERED water so that they cool off by the time my kids have them. We dont have ice cubes in the fridge and milk is always plain. I "bising" when my husband buys sausages, nuggets and burgers - my children's idea of IKEA Meatballs are the ones I make at home.

As a mother I have been overweight since I was in secondary school. My mother has high blood pressure and my brother had high blood before he reached 25. My college mate died at my age (during the first week of Ramadhan) He developed diabetes and highblood at the age of 16.

Even if my eldest asks for Kit Kat once in a while, she shares them with me. Her reason - "a bit is enough to taste I do not want to be obese"

Why?

I'm a 35 year old mother whom (like Jamie Oliver)

"I've worked fairly tirelessly to save lives in my own way.
I'm not a doctor.
I'm a chef;
I don't have expensive equipment or medicine.
I use information, education.
I profoundly believe that the power of food has a primal place in our homes that binds us to the best bits of life."

I've been an advocate of homecooked food since I gave birth to A'aesyah,
I actively support homemade babyfood (my online diary is here and the support group is here)
trying to correct what I have done wrong with Aliya and learning to serve and be better role models to A'amelia (I had Gestational Diabetes when I was pregnant with her so she has a 50/50 chance of developing it later in life)

and  so far yes my kids eat Broccoli, Fresh Tomatoes, Fruits,
french baked sweet potatoes instead of french fries
and every morning I tell my husband
"please buy mustard greens..."

*mustard greens = sawi

Amin

I'm a SAHM so am a broke ass degree holder?

..I wanted to write 5 Tips to Keep Kids from Getting Sick but I got sidetrack :P

Salah satu sebab why I looked upon the idea of becoming a FTHW or SAHM in 2009 had to do with something my TL pointed out - as you become a mother, you constantly have to take ELs to cater the need or needs of your children's health as well.

SO to be fair to myself and to my children and even to my colleagues I gave in to that idea only because I PERSONALLY THINK at that moment my children were small and fragile.

Alhamdulillah, the days have been easier when the kids have a few sniffles and coughs here and there. Even the husband is pleased. He's got a pound off his shoulders by not having to explain why he cant come to work to his bosses. Not that he doesn't care, but he brings in the bread and he should not need to worry so much.

“This world is just temporary conveniences, and the best comfort in this world is a righteous women.” Sahih Muslim 10/56, Kitab al-rida’, bab istihbab nikah al-bikr

It wasn't an easy decision. A high rising career in a Multinational Company with a 4 figure salary higher than previous jobs and endless perks, it was simple "GILA" to just stop in the mids of that.

I had to move houses so my husband could be closer to his office. I had to find a new babysitter after we moved which made me cringe because I had to let go of Diana my babysitter in Ampang and I DIDNT WANT TO and although money was tight back then, I brave myself to let go of almost everything just so my children had an equal chance of growing up in my own personal care the way I see most fit.

My dad once said, blood is thicker than water and I think I share the same sentiments. Besides, money wise - half of my income would go to traveling, food and day care so what's the point anyway.

It might not be THE most satisfying job in terms of monetary values, but at least now I have the time to actually "study" and make sure I'm doing my job if not better, at least better than when I had Aliya.

But then once in a while I hear a few cynical voices about how I've tucked my teaching degree and let dust gather

...but I'm still learning...
and still finding that there isn't enough hours in a day or full knowledge capacity to be a MOM - only because my kids are still SMALL.

Yes I still have dreams, aspirations, they havent stopped and I have not stop functioning to be come imperial to the benefits of my family, religion or society (if that is what is implied)

The thing is, I'm the one being question in front of God in the afterlife if anything does go wrong with my kids - degree or no degree. Work can wait, my children's IMPERIAL needs of becoming a functioning adult to her family, religion, society and even mankind comes FIRST.

I shall be questioned on THAT...no GOD will not question why I have left dust to gather on a piece of paper.

Sure, I might be looked upon as a total failure (for not working?) but if my kids dont grow up to become a nuisance to my family or society I'm not at total loss. At least I am being realistic - I'm a mom. It's a responsibility GIVEN to be my Allah swt. It would be wrong for me to not give that careful consideration.

...correction - its  HUGE RESPONSIBILITY given to me by Allah swt

At least I have time to teach proper values..PROPER MUSLIM MALAY VALUES to my kids with the hopes that for example they will not forget where they come from or *cough* who their 12 other great uncles and aunts are :P

Imam Ali son of Abu Talib (as) said: May Allah have mercy on the one who helps his child towards righteousness by being good to him, appealing to him, teaching him knowledge, and training him

...so why should a few misguided minds think I am a total failure fr being a broke ass degree holder - I dem-ly well decide what is in my best interest to ensure I deserve to have that piece of heaven under my feet.

p/s if you're still interested in knowing about the 5 tips, check it out here

pp/s I asked Aliya, if I die would she still make duas for me (after all the "membebel" I do to her) she said - "of course Ma" without a single pause. I asked her "do you make duas for me now? " - she said "sometimes" and I asked "why lah?" which she said "you can still ask yourself now, but when you're gone you can't so thats when I ask more for you lah" :P ~ I'm not complaining

Allah's Messenger [صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم] said: "When a man dies, his good deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge and righteous offspring who will pray for him." [Sahih Muslim: 3084]
