Why that little tugboat is named Rachel Corrie?

Rachel Aliene Corrie (April 10, 1979 – March 16, 2003) was an American member of the International Solidarity Movement (ISM) who traveled to the Gaza Strip during the Second Intifada. She was killed when an Israeli soldier drove his bulldozer over her as she protested against the destruction of Palestinian homes by the Israeli Occupation Forces in the Gaza Strip.

An identifiable and non-threatening lady in both her nature and approach. Rather, Rachel put her life on the line to stand up against a policy that is inhumane.

Thousands of people do this every single day around the globe, in an effort to stop violence and atrocities against land, people, animals and crops.

Rachel is guilty only of assuming that another human being into whose eyes she was looking would not take her life.

Witnesses report that first she sat down in front of the bulldozer when it was still at least 10 meters away and she was in plain sight. Then as the bulldozer kept advancing, she got up, climbed up on a mound of dirt and rubble, in order to look the bulldozer driver in the eye. It is not credible to assert that the bulldozer driver could have missed her

Rachel Corrie lies on the ground fatally injured by the Israeli military bulldozer driver. Rachel’s fellow activists have dug her a little out of the sand and are trying to keep her neck straight due to spinal injury. Picture taken at 4:47PM on 16 March 2003, Rafah, Occupied Gaza. I cried when I saw her 5th grade speech...

When we replied that, indeed, we had crossed the sea in not only this small boat, but one even smaller, 44 of us challenging Israel’s blockade on the 1.5 million Palestinians of Gaza, he caught Gaza Fever.

“You need a proper boat,” he said. “I’m going back to my people in Malaysia and see how we can help you raise money to send more boats back to Gaza.”

And that’s exactly what he and his wife did.

They went back to their citizens and, through the Perdana Global Peace Organization, helped to raise over EURO 300,000 for the Free Gaza to purchase a cargo ship and two passenger boats. These are the boats we are sailing to Gaza beginning mid-May (one of which is the MV Rachel Corrie) ~ perdana4peace
